Zackaria's life is comprised mostly of shadows and light. His lack of eyesight prevents him from doing things otherwise normal for a little boy, such as playing with other children. However, with his sight soon restored, that will all change.
“Zackaria does move along by himself, but I am worried about him at times, as the way he sees things is gloomy,” says his mother, Binta. When she found out that he was given a date for eye surgery on the ship, she was elated. “The family prayed for the ship to be blessed and the operation to be successful.”
Zackaria tries his best to be as independent as possible, even attempting to play ball like other kids. However, after his free cataract surgery on the Africa Mercy, he shouldn't have any trouble seeing his target and getting around on his own!
